Eastbourne Corporation

Eastbourne Corporations main claim to fame is its boast that it was the first municipality in the world to run motor buses, this is disputed by Southampton who also claim this honour.. The first route commenced on 12th April 1903 between the Railway station and Meads at the foot of Beachy Head. Two single deckers and two double deckers were operated, these were Milnes  Daimlers and ran via Grand Parade. After experimenting with De Dion Boutons, Leylands, Dennis's and Crossleys, in the 1950's and Sixties most new orders were for AECs. The company is still council owned and trades as Eastbourne Buses.
