About this site

The purpose of site is to indulge in nostalgia for the days when towns and cities showed their civic pride by running smart fleets of buses which were publicly owned. In these days of the ethos of "private good" "public bad" this would probably be frowned upon but what was so wrong with public ownership of transport and the idea of public service as something to be proud of. Most of our municipal bus operations were sold off with indecent haste in the 1980s following deregulation, a period when politicians knew the price of everything but the value of nothing. This site hopes to reflect on the days before this and also take a look at what is happening now across seven municipalities based in central southern England. Of the seven featured, four are still wholly or partly owned by councils.

My background is as an enthusiast of these operators, having lived in central southern England for most of my life.

The aim is to provide a mix of words and pictures which will interest fellow enthusiasts. I would very much welcome any material be it written or photos in JPG or GIF form which would add value to this site and that you would like to share with other enthusiasts.. All material will, of course, be attributed to the supplier. Click below to EMAIL me or sign my guestbook (above):-

I hope you enjoy this site I would welcome your comments.

All the best
